| Overview of The Club The Lake City Athletic Club was formed in 1991 from the two clubs that previously existed in Rotorua. The club is a registered as an incorporated Society and is an affiliated member of Athletics New Zealand. In addition to the normal activities of athletic clubs, we cater for members of the jogging and walking fraternity, and organise a marathon clinic over the summer months. We have our various activities organised by different groups of people via sub-committees. In this way we involve people into the organisation of the affairs of the Club, thereby reducing reliance on a hardworking Executive. We are particularly strong at event organisation and have developed expertise in all aspects of event promotion and organisation. From the events that we have organised over the years, we have developed financial security, which enables the club to provide considerable facilities and services to its members while maintaining a very modest subscription. A photo of our Clubrooms which are situated in Neil Hunt Park, off Tarawera Road in Rotorua, is on the HOME page. This is the main venue for distance running and social events of the club. The clubrooms are located only a few hundred metres from Whakarewarewa forest, through which there is probably at least a hundred kilometres of forest tracks and gravel roads. The forest provides probably the best training facilities in the country and of late has become a haven for mountain biking. Track and Field activities are held on the No 2 ground, International Stadium, Devon Street. Both senior and children competitions are held on Wednesday evenings. See separate pages for each by clicking on Senior Athletics or Childrens Athletics.
For the winter Road and Cross Country season, a detailed calendar of events is published each year. This sets out the location from which club runs will be held during the season and lists the many inter-club and open events (including road races ranging from 10k's to the marathon) to be held in the wider Waikato Bay of Plenty area. |
