If we are lucky enough to get a course out in the blue yonder of the countryside where the air is fresh and the grass is green (to say nothing of a bit of bog and fresh cow pat or two), its heaven. So why not come along and give it a go. You may surprise yourself and love it! The road season follows after the what will have been a strength building cross-country season - road running after cross-country makes you feel as though you are really flying! We have estimated time runs which means you are told where a course goes, and then you guess how long it will take you to complete the course. The person that finishes closet to their estimated time is the winner (watches cannot be carried). A sealed handicap event means everyone starts at the same time, but you don’t know what handicap the club handicapper has given to you. The winner is the person who has the fastest time after the deduction of their handicap from their finish time. In an open handicap event everyone starts off at a different time, with the slowest person going first and the fastest last. The first person across the finish line is the winner. It’s possible for any person to win an estimated time, sealed handicap or open handicap event. The best part of the winter months is the relay events. People of all ABILITIES make up the teams. They are excellent club building events. We have local club relay events, and also out of town events where you can compete against other club teams. Just remember all abilities participate during this winter season! If it weren’t for the people at the back of the field there would be no front people (otherwise known as winners). Some of the best races take part back in the middle and latter half of the field. We have a great sub committee and programme planned for this winter, so come along and give it a go. If you don’t try you’ll never know. As always, the emphasis is on having fun while at the same time giving you a chance, if you so desire, to pit your competitive streak against others.
